Carlos’ assistance goes beyond just the job skills, “my counselor was able to turn me on to another great resource, the free clinic”

Carlos was laid off in February 2021 from his position as a Field Quality Control Representative with a Home Foreclosure company. As a result of the eviction and foreclosure moratorium, his company no longer had a need for a large portion of the staff. Carlos eventually applied for Unemployment and was selected to participate in the Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program, a program that assists Unemployment Claimants to return to work sooner by creating individual career and employment plans based on the participant’s career history, interests, and local labor market information.

“I tell everyone I know…my counselor helped me so much” Carlos said, “everyone I spoke to was really helpful and eager to help.” Carlos received assistance updating his resume and attended the September Workshop Series covering topics such as phone etiquette, email etiquette, and resume development, “the interview skills really helped me” Carlos says. Carlos’ assistance goes beyond just the job skills, “my counselor was able to turn me on to another great resource, the free clinic” which allowed Carlos access to life-saving healthcare while he was out of work. Carlos attests that the support he received helped him find his next position. When asked if he has advice for the next job seeker, Carlos suggests applying for unemployment and getting connected with OhioMeansJobs since, “there are so many resources I would have never known about if I hadn’t applied.”

Carlos started a new position as a Customer Service Representative with a major health insurance provider in October 2021. He expresses gratitude for the help he received from OhioMeansJobs to touch up his resume and prepare him for his interviews. The entire OhioMeansJobs | Lake County team was happy to assist Carlos through his job search process and wishes him the best in his new position and his ongoing career.
